About Sky broadband

Sky is best known in Ireland for television, but it sells broadband as a standalone product over the wholesale fibre networks rather than over infrastructure of its own. That means the line coming into the house is the same physical connection another provider would sell you at the same address, and the comparison comes down to price, contract length and what happens when the introductory period ends.

Its range is the widest we track, running from an entry-level fibre tier up to a five-gigabit plan, with most speeds offered as two separate deals: a shorter contract at a slightly higher opening rate, and a longer one at a lower rate. Both versions appear in our tables because they are genuinely different propositions — a shorter term costs more per month but leaves you free to switch away when the discount expires, which at these prices is worth real money.

The pattern to watch with Sky is the step up at the end of the offer. Opening rates are among the most competitive in the market, and the standard rates they revert to are among the highest, so the gap between the first year and the second is unusually large. A plan opening around €30 a month can settle above €70. There is no contractual annual increase attached and no separate setup fee on the plans in our data, which makes the arithmetic simpler than some competitors’, but it also means the whole saving is concentrated in the introductory window. Diary the end date when you sign up.

Sky lists most plans twice, as a 12-month and a 24-month offer at different opening rates. Both appear below because they are genuinely different deals, not a duplicate row.

Sky broadband questions

Is Sky the cheapest broadband provider in Ireland?

Not overall. Sky's best plan, Broadband Superfast (12-month offer), ranks 2 of 22 plans we track, at about €360 over a first year against €319.88 for the cheapest plan on the market. Speed and availability differ between them, so the cheapest plan overall may not be sold at your address — see the full broadband comparison.

How much does Sky broadband cost a month?

Sky's cheapest plan opens at €30 a month for 12 months and then moves to €72.50 a month. Spread across the whole 12-month contract — that averages €30 a month. The monthly headline on its own is not the cost of the plan, which is why we publish both.

What broadband speeds does Sky offer?

The Sky plans in our data run from 75 Mbps up to 5 Gbps download, delivered over full fibre. What you can actually order depends on the network at your address rather than on the provider's price list, so run your eircode through the provider's checker first. Compare against every provider at the same speed on our broadband comparison.

What happens to my Sky bill when the offer ends?

The account moves from the opening rate to Sky's standard rate — €30 to €72.50 a month on its cheapest plan — as soon as the introductory months run out. There is no separate contractual annual increase on top of that in our data. Set a reminder a month before the offer expires: that is the point at which switching, or asking for a new deal, is worth the phone call.

How do I switch to Sky?

Check availability at your eircode on Sky's own site first — fixed broadband is sold address by address, and a plan advertised nationally may not reach you. If it is available, Sky places the order and arranges any installation; you keep your existing service running until the new line is live, then cancel the old one, honouring whatever notice period it carries. Our guide to switching broadband covers contract end dates, notice and equipment returns.
