The same plan (Standard Electricity (eBill)) priced at the three usage presets used across this site. A low user is hit harder by the standing charge, a heavy user by the unit rate — which is why one supplier can be cheapest for a flat and dearest for a family home.

About Waterpower
Waterpower is a small independent electricity supplier operating in the Republic of Ireland. It publishes its current rates openly on its own site and sells a deliberately minimal range: a standard electricity plan for customers on eBilling with a 24-hour meter, and an equivalent plan for households with a smart meter installed.
Like the other small suppliers we track, Waterpower competes on a plain published rate rather than on a large introductory discount. There is no percentage in the plan name and nothing to expire at month 12, so the first-year and ongoing figures on this page are close together. When you rank the whole market by first-year cost the deep-discount suppliers will usually sit above it; when you rank by ongoing cost the picture changes, and that second view is the more useful one if you are not the sort of household that switches every year.
Two practical notes. Its plans assume electronic billing, so a household that wants paper bills posted out should confirm the terms and price before signing up. And a small supplier will not have the promotional extras the large ones use — no welcome cashback, no bundled hardware — which is part of why the underlying rate can be competitive.
Switching to Waterpower costs nothing and takes about two to three weeks. You need your MPRN from a recent bill, a meter reading and bank details for direct debit. Your electricity supply is never interrupted, and the meter stays with ESB Networks.
Waterpower's two plans differ by meter and billing method rather than by discount tier — one standard eBilling plan for a 24-hour meter and one for a smart meter.

Waterpower electricity questions
Is Waterpower the cheapest electricity supplier in Ireland?
Not on average usage. Waterpower's best plan, Standard Electricity (eBill), ranks 5 of 26 plans we track at 4,200 kWh a year, at about €1,491.33 for the first year against €1,296.92 for the market leader. See the full cheapest electricity providers ranking.
How much does Waterpower electricity cost per year?
At the 4,200 kWh a year the CRU uses as a typical household, Waterpower's cheapest plan comes to roughly €1,491.33 in the first year and €1,491.33 a year once introductory pricing ends. Those figures include the standing charge and the PSO levy but assume the usage split shown on this page. Use the table above to see what a low or heavy user would pay.
What meter types does Waterpower support?
The Waterpower plans in our data cover standard 24-hour, smart tariff meters. Your meter type is fixed by the hardware on your wall, not by the supplier, so check which one you have before comparing — a smart tariff on a household that cannot shift usage to the night band will usually cost more than a flat rate. See smart meter tariffs for how the bands work.
How do I switch to Waterpower?
Switching is free and takes about two to three weeks, with no interruption to your supply. You need your MPRN, which is printed on any recent electricity bill, a current meter reading, and bank details — direct debit is required on the discounted plans. There is no introductory discount to expire, so the rate you sign up on is the rate that continues. Our switching guides walk through the whole process.
