Cheapest Gas and Electricity in Ireland (October 2026)
Prices updated 11 October 2026
Cheapest gas and electricity together
The cheapest single supplier for both fuels is SSE Airtricity, at an estimated €2,543.50 a year in year one. It is also the cheapest supplier in each fuel taken on its own, so there is nothing to trade off today — one supplier is both the simplest and the cheapest answer.
Estimated at 4,200 kWh of electricity and 11,000 kWh of gas a year, from tariffs read on 11 October 2026. Not a quote.
Dual fuel means buying your electricity and your natural gas from the same company. Suppliers push it because it doubles the value of a customer and makes you far less likely to leave; it is worth having because most of them price it a little better than either fuel alone. Whether it is actually the cheapest thing to do depends on whether that discount is bigger than the gap between the best supplier in each fuel separately, and in the Irish market it very often is not.
This page settles that for you on current tariffs. The first table shows every supplier that sells both fuels, with its best electricity plan and its best gas plan, ranked on the combined first-year total. The second table compares the best single-supplier option against the cheapest-of-each strategy, so you can see the gap in euro rather than in principle.
Bear in mind that "cheapest combined" is only a real answer for a household with mains gas. If you heat with oil, a heat pump or solid fuel, the gas half of this page does not apply, and the electricity ranking on its own is the one to use.

One supplier or two?
The same question put directly: the best dual-fuel bundle against picking the cheapest supplier in each fuel independently. On today's tariffs both rows land on SSE Airtricity, because it is cheapest in each fuel separately as well as combined.
| Approach | Supplier(s) | First year | Ongoing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Both fuels from one supplier | SSE Airtricity | €2,543.50 | €3,218.01 |
| Cheapest of each, separately | SSE Airtricity + SSE Airtricity | €2,543.50 | €3,218.01 |
Dual fuel questions
Is it cheaper to get gas and electricity from the same supplier?
Right now the question does not arise: SSE Airtricity happens to be the cheapest supplier in both fuels at typical usage, so taking both from it — about €2,543.50 a year — is also the cheapest combination available. That is a coincidence of current pricing rather than a rule. The two datasets move independently, and the next time either supplier changes its rates the answer can split again, so it is worth re-checking rather than assuming.
What is a dual fuel discount?
It is a reduction a supplier gives you for taking both electricity and gas from it, usually expressed as a deeper percentage off unit rates than either fuel gets on its own. Because it is applied inside the tariff rather than as a separate credit, it is already reflected in the annual costs on this page where the supplier publishes it that way. Like every other discount in the Irish market, it normally applies for the first 12 contract months.
What are these dual fuel estimates based on?
4,200 kWh of electricity and 11,000 kWh of gas a year, which are the CRU's typical household figures. Electricity costs include the standing charge and the PSO levy; gas costs include the standing charge and carbon tax. Prices were last read from supplier sites on 11 October 2026. If your usage is well away from those numbers, run the two comparisons separately with your own kWh.
Do I have to switch both fuels at the same time?
No, though most suppliers make it easier if you do. Each fuel is a separate account with its own meter point — an MPRN for electricity, a GPRN for gas — and each switch takes about two to three weeks independently. Nothing stops you moving electricity now and gas at the end of your current gas contract. Check whether the dual-fuel rate you were quoted survives the gap.
Which suppliers sell both gas and electricity in Ireland?
5 of the suppliers in our data sell both: SSE Airtricity, Energia, Electric Ireland, Bord Gáis Energy, Yuno Energy. Several others sell electricity only, so if a dual-fuel deal is what you are after, that list is your starting point. See all electricity suppliers and all gas suppliers for the full picture.
